DERYCK A. GIBSON LIMITED PROFILE Deryck A. Gibson Limited began trading in 1956. The Company, at the time, specialized in the supply of steel, building materials, construction equipment and machinery to fill the needs of the boom taking place in Jamaica during the 60s and early 70s. In the 1970s, the Company moved into the supply of container handling and heavy equipment; including Valmet cranes, Dynapac rollers, route construction equipment and air compressors. In the 80s, the Company developed the supply of equipment to the Bauxite Industry and, at the time, supplied Payhauler trucks, Grove cranes and J.I. Case excavating equipment, and established a service department staffed with factory In the early 90s, the Group established the supply of Power Plants and Generator Sets to both the public and private sectors. Over time, the Group has changed its emphasis to meet the changing economic and industrial environment in the island. To this end, the Group was split into divisions, as follows: Deryck A. Gibson Limited – Ports Division Financing is offered to prospective clients through various agencies and financial institutions. This facility has been utilized by the Kingston Port for the purchase of all equipment over the last sixteen years. Deryck A. Gibson Limited – Bridges Division The resident project engineer from Mabey & Johnson is based in our offices at 7 Haining Road. He works very closely with the Government engineers, contractors, and ourselves. Here again, we have assisted Mabey & Johnson Limited to arrange financing. Deryck A. Gibson Limited will undertake support services, including the organization and supervision of clearance and delivery of bridge steel works, associated plant and equipment, and giving support to the Mabey & Johnson Project Engineer. Gibson Limited – Valuations Division Airpower Limited – Service Division Gibson Energy Limited – Energy Division The Company utilizes the expertise of its suppliers to offer a complete sales and service package. In this regard, the Company sold a 72 MW Power Barge to a private power company, rebuilt boilers at Alcan (now WINDALCO) and Alcoa (now JAMALCO), and sold a Cogeneration Plant (18 MW) to Jamaica Broilers Limited. Gibson Energy Limited also performs energy audits and offers consultancy, as well as operating and managementcontracts. This division is headed by Mr. Steve Hawkes, an efficient and experienced power engineer, who has full knowledge and capability dealing with power plants and boilers of all sizes. Over the years the Group has undergone significant changes and today specializes in dealing with larger blue chip companies, government institutions, bauxite companies, cement manufacturing companies, leading construction companies, and has been instrumental in assisting to arrange financing for major projects, such as bridging projects, expansion of the Port in Kingston, and the supply of boilers to the Bauxite and Sugar Industries.
